Meet The Team
Hi, my name is Hannah and I have been a member of the Allstar Batonettes from the beginning of time…… well the first lesson in March 2005. On the first lesson I was quite nervous, but as my mum worked with Clair and Charlie, she told me they were great fun. I worked with Charlie and found the routine she was teaching me confusing, but fun. The next lesson I brought my best friend along, so I wasn’t so nervous, my friend really enjoyed it, but left earlier this year.
My best friend at the moment is….EVERYONE. Everyone at Allstar Batonettes is sooooo friendly and it is great to hang about with them in and out of lessons.   I have won 2 trophies, the first one I won was Batonette of the season and I was the first person to win it. The next trophy I won was player’s player, which all of the members of Allstar Batonettes had to vote for, so I was very happy when I won that.
The only thing I don’t like is, well nothing its just the most funniest club I’ve ever joined and feel proud that I can be called a member of the Allstar Batonettes.

I have been an Allstar Batonette since it started because my Mum's the coach.   My favourite routines from last year were pom-pom routines, the ones we did to Usher 'Yeah!' and Ciara '1 2 Step' because they were both really fast and funky.   I've had Batonette of the week a couple of times and Batonette of the month once.   I really like to see who wins each week because it's fun cheering them on.

My friends are everybody because the whole troupe are nice and fun.   I like when we go out to do displays because I like to see the crowd enjoying our performances.   Especially when I get to stand at the front (because I'm small)

I hope Allstar Batonettes have lots and lots of displays this year!

My Name is Charlie and I am one of the troupe leaders at Allstar Batonettes.

The whole idea of Allstar Batonettes came totally by chance.   I used to work with Clair and one day the topic of being a dance teacher came up in conversation.   I said that this would be one of my dream jobs as dancing is my main hobby.   Clair told me that she used to be in a majorette troupe and used to run her own troupe but had to give it up.   We both JOKINGLY said that we should start up a new, funky class for children which incorporates both dance and majorettes…so that’s exactly what we did!   On Thursday 17 March 2005 we had our first Allstar Batonettes lesson.   Although it did not take long to get the youth group up and running it was a big learning curve for me as I’d never done anything like it before. We had our first display just weeks after our first lesson and I can honestly say that Clair and I were more nervous than the girls themselves!   The troupe has come such a long way and I am so proud of each and every person that has been involved with us.   We had an AMAZING first summer, full of fetes and displays (some of which we had only days notice of).   We then went through a bit of a tough time at the beginning of 2006 with some members of the group branching out to try new things, one of the troupe leaders leaving to go travelling and I moved to London.   This was a testing time but we have come through it and are now stronger than ever.
We have so much to look forward to over the next year and the girls are simply amazing.   They work hard and are full of brilliant, fresh ideas all of the time.   Most of all though, they make me smile and laugh every lesson!

It can sometimes be hard running a youth group and can take up a lot of time and energy - especially travelling to Gillingham every week and travelling to all our displays - but do you know what?   I wouldn’t change a thing!   Allstar Batonettes are the best! X

My name is Kayleigh, I am 11 years old.   I joined Allstar Batonettes in January .   The thing that I think is best is seeing my friends and learning new routines.   My best friend is Nikki and I get on with everyone else.   Most of the routines I like but still don’t know “I Like Girls”.   My best routine is one that we have recently done a remix of all our routines.   My favourite carnival is Teynham.

My name is Clair, I am one of the troupe leaders at Allstar Batonettes.

Allstar Batonettes began from a chance conversation at work.   I was in a majorette troupe myself from a young age and then went on to be involved as a teacher with the same troupe.   Unfortunately they disbanded just one season after my daughter Aimy joined.   Charlie (the other troupe leader) said she would love to be a dance teacher (she had just started dragging me along to street dancing classes at the time).   So we thought what a great look it would be if we combined urban style dancing with majorettes - and the idea behind Allstar Batonettes was born!   After doing some research (internet), getting advice (Medway Council), being police checked (enhanced CRB disclosure), getting organised (paperwork), advertising (local schools & newspapers) and completing a basic first aid course (Charlie) we were ready to start our troupe.   And we haven’t looked back since!

The best thing about being on the team is that everyone involved has so much fun.   We all work so hard and really enjoy doing so.   I especially love the way new routines are created, the way we all work together using our different skills and abilities - EVERYONE brings something of value to Allstar Batonettes.   The girls make me so proud every week, they way they include one another and work as a team.

The worst bit is the nerves before each performance - mine, not the girls'!   By Clair - October 2006
